Subject: Copyright Law Enforcement – Phonograph Records in Suriname

  1. Association of Surinamese musicians recently seized a supply of phonograph records from a local retailer. Association had permission of local court, in accordance with copyright law, to seize records which had been copied without permission of producers and sold locally.
  2. Retailer claims that only sixteen recordings of local artists were seized. No American recordings were involved.
  3. Comment: With an eye to CBI certification on this point, it is worth noting that U.S. firms can reasonably expect same access to legal protection under Surinamese law.
