Tiriós e a FAB (1969)

“And the Air Force planes, fulfilling their mission, cross the vast Amazon region — an area that does not form the basic nucleus of civilization — reaching the distant region of Suriname, where Brazilian territory meets the border of Dutch Guiana.

Brigadier Paulo Sobral, commander of the Amazon Air Zone, oversees operations that include unloading animals that will help the locals mysteriously develop their resources.

It is striking to witness the encounter between the technology of the aviation era and this rough and primitive backcountry. The abyss of the temple was bridged by the airplane.

The Air Force also takes care of transporting religious missionaries who serve selflessly in the Suriname region, establishing all contacts between them and the civilized centers.

Teaching literacy to the young Indigenous children is the starting point for their integration. Daily lessons and educational activities create the conditions for survival for these friendly people.

The preservation of Indigenous communities is another area to which the Air Force devotes itself, providing doctors and medicines.

The presence of the Air Force and the missionaries in Suriname brings to these people tools, animals, and teachings that allow them to overcome the challenges of the jungle.”
